Sociology, Associate of Science Transfer
Program Description
This degree pathway is designed for students planning to transfer to a participating Oregon public university to pursue a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Sociology or Sociology/Anthropology, but who are unsure of their intended transfer destination. The curriculum provides a foundational understanding of sociological principles and fulfills the lower-division general education and major-specific course requirements for a seamless transition to a four-year institution.
Through this program, students will be introduced to the core concepts and methods used to study society, social interaction, and social institutions. The coursework emphasizes the development of critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to understand and engage with complex social issues. This program is ideal for students seeking a strong foundation for further study and careers in fields such as social services, law, education, public policy, community organizing, and research.
Program Outcomes
- Apply the sociological imagination or other sociological approaches to explain how human experiences relate to social structures and/or cultures across time and space.
- Analyze how social inequality and systems of power operate across institutions and social categories such as class, race and ethnicity, sex and gender, sexuality, age, etc.
