Addiction Treatment, Pathway Certificate

Program Description

The Addiction Treatment certificate curriculum offers, over two-terms, the coursework that meets the educational hours required to take the Oregon Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC-I) exam. Topics addressed include individual and group counseling skills, addiction pharmacology, ethics, HIV/AIDS and fundamentals of case management.

Program Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the Pathway Certificate in Addiction Treatment will:

  1. Utilize interpersonal and group skills needed to effectively work with diverse populations.
  2. Apply case management skills, including documentation, assessment and treatment planning.
  3. Apply fundamental concepts related to drug use, misuse, addiction, and recovery, including prevention strategies, pharmacology of psychoactive substances, harm reduction, and treatment options.
  4. Demonstrate professional, ethical, and legal standards and show responsibility for professional growth.

Career Considerations

The Addiction Treatment certificate provides students the required education hours to take the Oregon Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC-I) exam. A CADC-I can work in the substance abuse treatment field at either private or non-profit agencies. After completing the educational hours, students still need to earn 1,000 supervised hours under a CADC-II or higher to be eligible for the CADC test.
